How To Have a Dry Weekend - The Red Lipstick Way

12 days into the Dryathlon...

...and this weekend Mr P is in Hull strutting his stuff on stage leaving me home alone. It’s so peaceful I don’t know what to do with myself!

Lucky for me I have one of my best girl-friends coming to visit.

*FYI she also runs her own blog How Knot to Knit under the name of the Knaff Knitter, if you’ve ever fancied learning how to knit or just feel like laughing at someone else’s attempt at learning to knit then check it out at http://howknottoknit.blogspot.co.uk/*

As I’m currently signed up to Cancer Research’s Dryathlon -  http://www.justgiving.com/dryathlete-kyla-player - I have had the challenge of choosing things for us to do without alcohol. This has actually been really interesting! Usually when myself and Knaff Knitter get together it is in a bar, or at home with a bottle of wine prior to going to a bar, so I was really interested to see what my brain could come up with when alcohol wasn’t an option.

I decided that I would let my red lipstick guide me and plan a gorgeous vintage weekend for the two of us.

Maldon is a great place to poke around if you’re a lover of vintage. My first plan for Knaff and I is to visit one of my favourite places of all time – Truly Scrumptious.

Truly Scrumptious is a cafe in Maldon which specialises in lovely tea and cakes. It’s decorated entirely in vintage decor (truly vintage as well) and everything down to the tea sets is absolutely beautiful.

But the best part of Truly Scrumptious is what’s upstairs. It’s a treasure trove of vintage knick knacks from tea sets to hairbrushes. There’s furniture, suitcases, dresses, plates and so much more all haphazardly piled up on crooked 18th century floors. I adore it; I can spend hours poking around.

It also serves afternoon tea so I decided this is the perfect first stop for Ms Knitter and me.  After that we’ll have a wander around Maldon, Knaff is going to teach me how to knit so we’ll visit the knitting shop for supplies and look around some of the other lovely shops.

Tonight I’m making us Swedish cheese fondue and I’m going to use my retro slushie maker for some non alcoholic slushie cocktails!

Tomorrow we’re visiting a vintage fair in Benfleet – a perfect end to a retro weekend!

Ok so it's a little different from our usual get togethers which often involve a bar in London and trip to a rock concert... but I can always hit ticketmaster in February ;)
